It feels like a travesty to be writing that the past week was insane etc in every single post. My life, unfortunately, isn't as exciting as you're led to believe. Like any other 16 year old, the responsibility of school beckons (though I can attest that we do respond in differing degrees).
BUT, admittedly, it was the Best. Week. Ever. No kidding. If I thought that the previous week was amazing, that was only the appetizer. I met so many (more) inspiring people (including Claudia Wu from Cherrybombe - kinda star-struck moment there, Jane from Kith - who was from the same school as yours truly and gosh, like I said, so many). Besides that, I finally made the long-due trip to the Red Dot design museum, went out for brunch with Jonas, and gained so much fresh perspective on food, writing, travel and generally, life.
Beyond that, I've never heard "You look really young!" mentioned as frequently as this week. It's usually a "Where do you work?"
Aah-sai-ehhhh. Not ah-cai, or err-sai (okay, that one is admittedly closer). It's this new obsession of mine, with Project Acai (a local acai cafe) launched in Singapore and that bowl at Juice Generation back in New York. Cold, creamy, with a good amount of fruits - who wouldn't love it?
Except that here, I've got something better.
I'll let you in on a secret - I don't really like bananas. Yes. Me - not a big fan of those poor yellow fruits which have been the unfortunate subject of many an aphrodisiac joke. No, really. Despite all my breakfasts which I post on instagram which feature those coins of banana, I just like them in a cooked form, where it doesn't make the whole meal sit heavily in your stomach.
And so, for this entire time, I've always thought of acai bowls as slushy purple smoothies with fancy toppings which are really REALLY filling.
BUT NOT ANY LONGER.
Droopy eyelids are the new black. You know, the look which you add on to with a shield for your eyes with your hand in a drowsy bid to muffle that silent scream of "I NEED MORE SLEEP!!!" Yeah, that.
It always starts the same way with a slight bobbing of the head akin to a pigeon. The bobbing deepens. You rub your eyes. Back Forth. Back Forth. The tear ducts activate. You blink. Rub some more. Oh dear, your eyes are blurring, aren't they? Then your head begins to droop. Down, down, down...
Picture this - a diet of insufficient sleep and too much caffeine. Blisteringly hot nights which leave you sweaty and sticky. Having to stay up late to finish assignments thanks to activities meant to help us "build discipline". And the worst bit - having no appliances to cook with, and only a microwave and refrigerator on hand.
Hello July, and hello boarding.
Sometime ago, I was moaning on about this. Now, it's back, with too much sugar being thrown into the mix. I'm not kidding. Sugar-high is REAL. Anyhow, it's been an insane week, with so many things going on for me on top of the usual schoolwork. I'm just glad to be home for the weekend.
Anyhow, an update on my internet coming-and-goings : I've got an interview article published on Browse Knots - check it out here - which was so fun to do. Also, how are y'all liking the new design of the blog?
